HIWA Cancer Hospital – Kurdistan

In 2016, it became possible to establish the first hematopoietic stem cell transplant center in the entire Kurdistan region of Iraq. This achievement was made feasible through the collaboration of physicians, nurses, and laboratory technicians from across Italy. Our medical professionals and nurses undertook responsibility for the pediatric aspect of the project. Over the initial two years of operation, more than fifty missions were conducted on-site, accompanied by training periods in Italy for the local staff. Presently, the center operates independently.
